HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Birmingham VA Health Care System will reach two new milestones on Friday when it launches the Huntsville South VA Specialty Care Clinic and the Veterans Transportation Program.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs said North Alabama has the fastest growing Veteran population in the state, so expansions allow more access to high-quality care for veterans.
The Huntsville South VA Specialty Care Clinic will offer specialty services such as cardiology, chemotherapy infusion, podiatry and neurology. The 7,000-square-foot facility will see its first patients on March 2.
The specialty care clinic is partnered with the University of Alabama Birmingham Medicine in Huntsville. This follows a 2024 agreement to increase Veteran services between Birmingham VA and Fox Army Health Center.
The Veterans Transportation Program will provide safe transportation for Veterans to and from their VA medical appointments.
Veterans within a 50-mile distance of the Huntsville VA Clinic can utilize the Huntsville Veterans Transportation Program. The VA said this is an important service for rural Veterans and Veterans with mobility challenges.
