BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — North Dakota Health and Human Services (NDHHS) is celebrating a program that for the last decade, has helped people get access to recovery after substance use.

The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Voucher program was created by the state legislature in 2015 to connect people and families to treatment and recovery support. Since its inception, 11,690 North Dakotans have been approved for the program.

The initiative is meant to help ease the financial burden people might otherwise face when seeking treatment by allowing them to choose providers from a variety of covered services. These include different types of therapy, peer support, transportation, and room and board, among others.

People may qualify if they live in North Dakota, are 12 years old or older, meet income eligibility requirements, and don’t have enough resources or insurance coverage to pay for treatment. To learn more, go to the NDHHS.

The North Dakota legislature appropriated $900,000 for the program when it was established in 2015.
